Meningitis (MenB) Information for Sussex GP practices.
We are extremely sad to hear of the meningitis outbreak in Canterbury and subsequent deaths.
Given the heightened concern amongst patients following the outbreak, we are aware there have been increased contacts to General Practice regarding this.
Along with partners, we are monitoring the situation closely. The UK Health Security Agency is providing regular updates here and information is being shared on the UKHSA blog.
As the situation continues to evolve, please see the below materials which may be helpful for you to share with your teams and direct to patients:
- UKHSA and NHS England letter for GPs regarding the outbreak
- MenB - Helpful information sheet from the ICB (attached)
- A holding statement has been shared on the NHS Sussex website, which you can share or direct people to: Meningitis cases in Kent
- Patient facing information including posters and social media posts
- Information is being shared from the National NHS Facebook account which can also be shared from practice social media channels
If an outbreak situation arises which requires prophylaxis in Surrey or Sussex, we are aware this is not part of the General Medical Services contract and are committed to supporting practices should this be necessary. We will continue to update as the situation develops.
Best wishes,
Surrey Primary Care
